With Rafael Nadal dominating 2019, we’re thrilled to speak with a man who was undefeated against him on the court and now covers him on the TV. His countryman and predecessor, former world #2, ALEX CORRETJA.
Corretja was at the forefront of a massive movement in Spanish tennis. He and Carlos Moya led to Feliciano Lopez and Tommy Robredo which led to David Ferrer and of course… Rafa. And, along with Albert Costa and Juan Carlos Ferrero, Alex Corretja was part of the first Spanish team to win the Davis Cup.
On his own, he won Rome, Indian Wells and The ATP Masters and finaled Roland Garros twice. He beat Boris Becker, Andre Agassi, Gustavo Kuerton and Yevgeny Kafelnikov and countless others. And Corretja was part of one of the most memorable matches at the US OPEN… going toe to toe for 5 sets with a puking Pete Sampras. Currently, Corretja is a commentator for Euro Sports and has his own clothing brand.
ALEX CORRETJA explains what it was like to play a 16 year old Rafa, shares his thoughts on the controversy inside the ATP and tells us how his greatest foe on the tennis court was Mother Nature.
